Energy is essential to manufacturing. On any given day in our production facilities, we rely on multiple forms of energy, each form powering multiple unit operations. The usage depends on a wide range of variables around process, products, number of sequences, volume, and timing. Reducing our overall carbon footprint involves reducing our energy usage. To reduce our energy usage, understanding the details of those variables is key.
In 2022, we leveraged instrumentation logs on energy consumption for an in-depth regression analysis to calculate the usage per-production-meter in our Nijverdal finishing plant. A normalized baseline usage was calculated and is now used for comparison of actual consumption. From this key matrix, we can better identify potential energy inefficiencies (and even unrealized synergies) in our production processes.
